Facility

Raised Floor: The Cogent Data Centers have standard raised flooring to supply fresh air to the cabinets and to supply hidden area for power supply and data cables.

Raised Floor Materials : Raised floor panels are constructed of anti-static material which is grounded. All necessary spaces in the raised floor for linking up cables and supplying the equipment with fresh air are made by Cogent. Check for site specifics on the load-bearing capacity of raised flooring.

Telecommunications Cabling: The data and power cables are installed in the raised floor in pre-installed cable runs.
All cabling in the raised floor is installed by Cogent only. Some Data Centers also have cable runs mounted in the ceiling or using ladder cabling racks. Check for site specifics.

Building Control Technology : Building Control technology is implemented in Cogent Data Centers.  Site specifics vary, and  include intrusion alarm systems, fire alarm systems with early warning integration, power monitoring systems, and air-conditioning monitoring systems.
The fire alarm systems may include smoke intake and a leakage monitoring systems which monitor water-bearing pipes and the air-conditioning systems.
The fuse monitoring system monitors power supply systems, the emergency generators and the air-conditioning systems.
The alarms are sent to the Cogent Network Operations and Management Centers (NOC/NMC).

Intrusion Alarm System : The intrusion alarm system includes the protection of doors,  ventilation, cable ducts and, if necessary, of the windows. All alarms are sent to the Cogent Network Operations and Management Centers (NOC/NMC).

Fire Walls : The Cogent Data Centers are equipped/provided with fire walls.

Fire Alarm System :The fire alarm system in the Cogent Data Centers includes an early warning system with smoke intake and an automatic fire alarm system.
All alarms are sent to the Cogent Network Operations and Management Centers (NOC/ NMC).

Fire Extinguishers : "Mobile fire extinguishing equipment (hand-held fire extinguishers) with a CO2 filling according fire codes are installed in the colocation areas.

Automatic fire-Fighting System : Cogent Data Centers are equipped/provided with automatic fire-fighting systems.
Automatic fire extinguishing equipment (including Gas Suppression system) is installed in the Cogent Data Centers. Please check for site specific details.

Air Cooling System : The air within the Data Centers permits the operation of telecommunications equipment according to applicable European and US Standards. The room and the cabinets and racks are air-conditioned via the raised flooring.

Temperature and Humidity Control : Under normal operating conditions, the temperature in the Data Centers is 22∞C/72∞F (+/- 2∞C/3∞F) and the atmospheric humidity is 50% (+/- 10%).

Leakage Monitoring : The leakage monitoring system in the Cogent Data Centers monitors water-bearing pipes and the air-conditioning systems.

Power

Power Supply
DC Power Planat : The DC voltage is provided by an uninterruptible power supply system with battery backup. If the public energy supply network fails, an emergency diesel generator ensures the power supply. The maximum emergency generator response time of 15 sec is bridged by the battery backup system.

AC Power Voltage : The AC voltage of 220/230V (Europe) or 110/115V (US) is based on a power supply system with battery backup and is usually supplied via the public energy supply network. If the public energy supply network fails, Cogent's own emergency diesel generator ensures the power supply. The maximum down -time before the emergency power supply starts is approx. 15 sec.
The telecommunications equipment is connected to the 220/230V or 110/115V AC power supply via junction boxes situated under the raised floor. Connection to the junction boxes is carried out by Cogent only.

UPS : In order to bridge this period between when public energy fails and emergency power supply starts (approximately 15 seconds), most sites have central uninterruptible power supply systems to ensure the power supply to the components in the data center.   An uninterruptible power supply system is not available in all Data Centers.  Please check for site specifics.

Generator System : A backup system based on a diesel/gas generator and batteries ensures the voltage supply for the AC and/or DC power levels if the public energy supply network fails. The maximum emergency generator response time of 15 sec is bridged by the battery backup systems.

Batteries : The battery backup systems are designed to support the AC and DC power needs of the facility for up to 4 hours.  This creates a level of power redundancy that allows Cogent to make alternative generator arrangements or repairs in the event there are both public energy and generator failures simultaneously.

Grounding and Potential Equalization System:
Cogent provides a grounding system situated under the raised floor to which the potential equalization system of the customer¥s telecommunications equipment is connected by Cogent.

Security

Access Control :An access control system in the entrance area consisting of video camera, intercom system (in some sites) and magnetic card reader protects Cogent Data Centers from unauthorized access. Cogent operates a round-the-clock Network Management Center (NMC) which co-ordinates access to the locations. The access authorizations for the rooms within the location are individually restricted to the necessary minimum.

Intercom System :Intercom system (where applicable) in the entrance area of the Cogent Data Center is part of the access control system of Cogent. A magnetic card reader and a video camera are also typically installed in the entrance area.

Video Surveillance : The video surveillance of all entrance areas of the Cogent Data Centers are part of the access control system. A magnetic card reader and an intercom system are also typically installed in the entrance area.

Motion Detectors : Within most Data Centers, the colocation area is separated from the Cogent technology area. The area used by Cogent is typically equipped with motion detectors.
